How Verifext Works
Last updated: 2026-05-18
Verifext compares your text against publicly indexed web content to identify overlapping passages and calculate an originality percentage. The entire process takes under a minute and requires no account registration.
Step 1: Submit Your Text
Paste up to 1,000 words into the scanner or upload a plain `.txt` file. Our system detects the language automatically and prepares the text for analysis. We do not permanently store submitted content — it is deleted after 30 days along with your report.
Step 2: Intelligent Sentence Extraction
Rather than sending your entire document as one query, Verifext extracts the most distinctive sentences — those most likely to appear in other sources if copied. This targeted approach improves accuracy while respecting search API limits and keeping scans fast.
Step 3: Live Web Search Comparison
Each extracted phrase is searched against billions of indexed web pages in real time. When a match is found, we record the source URL, similarity percentage, and the matched passage. Results include academic sites, news outlets, blogs, and other publicly accessible pages.
Step 4: Originality Score Calculation
Your originality score reflects the proportion of your text that did not match any indexed source. A score of 95% means roughly 5% of analyzed content overlapped with existing web pages. The score is a screening tool — always review flagged passages in context before drawing conclusions.
What the Score Does Not Mean
- A high score does not guarantee a citation is unnecessary
- A low score does not automatically mean plagiarism — quotes and common phrases may match
- The tool cannot detect unpublished sources, print-only books, or private databases
- Paraphrasing plagiarism may not trigger exact text matches
Step 5: Review Matched Sources
Your report lists every matched source with a clickable link, similarity percentage, and highlighted overlapping text. Use this list to verify citations, improve paraphrasing, or identify passages that need attribution.
Step 6: Share or Export
Generate a permanent shareable link to your report. Anyone with the link can view results — useful for submitting proof of originality to clients, instructors, or editors. Reports auto-delete after 30 days for privacy.
Best Practice
Run a scan before every submission — essays, blog posts, client deliverables, and guest articles. Catching overlap early is always easier than explaining it after publication.
Privacy & Security
All connections use HTTPS encryption. Storage directories are blocked from public HTTP access. Rate limiting prevents automated abuse. Read our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
