Verifext compares text you submit against publicly reachable web content using automated phrase extraction, web search, and similarity scoring. The Service:

• Does not access private databases, subscription journals, password-protected pages, or non-indexed files
• Does not determine intent, authorship, or whether copying was licensed or permitted
• Does not replace human review, citation checking, or institutional plagiarism procedures
• May produce false positives (matches on common phrases, quotations, or properly cited material)
• May produce false negatives (failure to detect paraphrasing, translation, offline sources, or recent content not yet indexed)

3. Scan Results Are Not Definitive Proof

Originality scores, match percentages, highlighted passages, and source lists are indicative only. They are not proof of plagiarism, copyright infringement, contract breach, academic misconduct, fraud, or defamation. No court, university, employer, or publisher is required to accept a Verifext report unless it has expressly agreed to do so in writing.

4. Your Sole Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:

• Text you submit and your right to analyze it
• How you interpret, share, and act on scan results
• Compliance with academic integrity rules, employment agreements, copyright law, and platform policies
• Obtaining permissions for quotations, collaboration, and republication
• Verifying matches in context (licensed stock text, boilerplate, legal citations, and collaborative drafts may legitimately match external sources)

Verifext disclaims all liability for academic penalties, course failure, job loss, reputational harm, legal claims, or financial loss arising from your reliance on—or misuse of—scan results or editorial content.

5. Shareable Report Links

Completed scans may generate shareable URLs. Anyone with a link can view the associated report until automatic deletion (see our Privacy Policy). You control distribution. Do not share links containing confidential, personal, or privileged information unless you accept the risk of unauthorized access, forwarding, or indexing.

6. Submitted Content

You represent that you will not submit content unless you have the legal right to do so for analysis. Do not submit classified material, trade secrets you are not authorized to disclose, others' personal data without lawful basis, or content that violates applicable law.

You retain ownership of your text. Processing is limited to providing the Service as described in our Terms and Privacy Policy.

7. Editorial Content (Blog and Guides)

Articles, guides, and FAQs are for general education only. We strive for accuracy but do not warrant that editorial content is current, complete, or applicable to your jurisdiction or institution. Verify critical facts with primary sources, official policies, and qualified advisors.

Where liability cannot be fully excluded, our aggregate liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) USD $100 or (b) the amount you paid to Verifext for the specific scan giving rise to the claim in the twelve (12) months preceding the event (which, for free use, may be zero).
